Remind people every time you hear them smear (liberals) that it was the liberals and the Democrats who made sure that our elderly has Social Security and Medicare, and the poor with Medicaid. Remind them that it was the liberals when the air and water were getting dirty, who fought and cleaned it out. Remind them that it was the liberals who said women should have the right to vote. Remind them that it was the liberals, and it's always been the liberals who got your back. Because we won't back down, we won't run away, we will stand up for you even if it means at a great personal cost ourselves. Because that's we are.

The other side?... They will give you $200 bucks, which would you rather have. And I promise you, they will take that $200 and more away from you long after they pull the wool over your eyes.

--- Michael Moore (from 1:20:51)

I learned that one of my best friends from high school, Matthew Worrell, had just been killed in Iraq when his Little Bird helicopter was shot down in a battle south of Baghdad. ... What angered me most was that Matt died serving an idea of America - the idea of a nation with an open mind and heart - that resembled the actual state of America less and less, and seemed to be vanishing.

Anyone who closes his eyes to the past is blind to the present. Whoever refuses to remember the inhumanity is prone to new risks of infection.

--- Richard von Weizsäcker

The country faces a fundamental disconnect between the services the people expect the government to provide, particularly in the form of benefits for older Americans, and the tax revenues that people are willing to send to the government to finance those services.

--- Douglas Elmendorf (Director of the Congressional Budget Office)

I just went to see — we got see — the play Hamilton. And it was terrific. I mean — And I'm not someone who would naturally say, ‘ I want to see two hours of rap music.’ But I came away thinking, well, it was an opera, it was a ballet, it was a story, it communicated the values that I believe from all I've read the Framers really did have. And it did so in a way that the next generation and the generation after that will understand and absorb and like it. And I thought that's such a good thing.

--- Justice Stephen Breyer (the U.S. Supreme Court)
